Day 10: Effective prayer

Have you ever had a sin in your life that just would not go away? Maybe you decided to change. Maybe at one point, you felt like you had victory over that sin, and then you just fell right back into it.

Struggles with sin are one of the hardest parts of the Christian life. On one hand, following Christ means putting our identity in Him. In Him, we are set free from our sin nature. On the other hand, we still sin.

Even when we don’t want to sin, we still do (Romans 7:15–16). In Christ we victory over sin, even though we still struggle with it.

John states that we are victorious over sin, and we should not continue doing it, but he also encourages other believers to pray for those who are struggling with sin.

While we are in the state of sinning over and over again, it can be frustrating. But even in that, God does not abandon us to struggle alone.  We always have the help of prayer. John says to “ask anything according to His will”.  He hears us.

The struggle with our flesh is real, but God isn’t finished with us yet. We are already “in the true one—that is, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life” (1John 5:20). He is the only way to eternal life, and we are only just beginning to taste the fullness that awaits (Philippians 3:20).
