Do you like where you live? I love everything between shopping, playing at the park, and reading at the library! Maybe when you read this passage in 1 John you think, but I love where I live, It’s where all my favorite things are! So what does it mean when John says “ Do not love the world or the things in the world”?
Remember, when God created the world, He declared it “Very Good”. I think John is referencing the things in the world that pulls us away from God.
“For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride in one’s possessions—is not from the Father, but is from the world” (1John 2:16). Those three categories belong to the world.
Instead of anchoring ourselves to the world, we should anchor ourselves to Jesus, the one who created us. We’re all tempted by the comforts of this world, but John is teaching us that all these things belong to the world, and the world is passing away (v.17).
The love of God is infinite and will last forever. Gods peace never fails us. And while this world is passing away, our hope is in Christ and His promises are secure!
He is our real treasure!
