How to Start Bible Journaling

Hey girls! It is SO great to be writing this post today. I don't know about you, but it is getting pretty cold where I live. I am so ready for all the sweaters, and hoodies, hot chocolate, and so much more.

Well, this post is going to be all about Bible journaling. This is something we have covered in other posts like this one. Well, anyways, I thought I would be fun to have a post about get started.

First, let's look at some reasons for Bible journaling.

It encourages you to use a printed Bible

This is one of the big ones for me (not that I am against using online Bibles, but I used to use an app so much, my Bible was left in the dust). Having notes, drawings, and sticky notes in your Bible could help you use your printed Bible.

This one is also tied to the next reason:

It makes you love your Bible more

This one was another big one for me. Before I started Bible journaling, I thought my Bible was boring. Soon, I got my She Reads Truth Bible. The theme of this Bible is finding the beauty of Scripture. All the cursive verses inspired me to start journaling.

Since then, I have learned to love my copy of Scripture even more than ever. It makes it so specials and one-of-a-kind.

It helps you get closer to God

I found taking lot's of time to decorate my copy of Scripture helped me learn a lot about God. Instead of just skimming the pages, I was highlighting, bolding, underlining, illustrating and more.

It helped me learn more about God because I studied His words deeper through journaling.

Those are the main reasons I started Bible journaling, and I think you should start to, but how?

How to Start Bible Journaling

Bible journaling can really be started just by starting. Here are the basic supplies I use for Bible journaling:

  • Highlighters (I really LOVE these)

  • Pens (These didn't bleed in my Bible)

  • Washi Tape (I use this set)

  • Sticky Notes (These are great)

Finding a journaling Bible

I had a hard time finding a NASB (My church's version) journaling Bible, so I went with the CSB She Reads Truth Bible (Get $5 off your order with this link!) It is great because it has LOTS of journaling space. If you are looking for a journaling Bible, her are some ideas:

Bible Journaling Tips + Tricks

Don't Focus on being perfect

This one is a game changer. You might mess up on a drawing or smudge your pen, but who cares? Don't compare yourself to Pinterest or Social media Bible journaling. Make it yours!

Add Notes From Sermons

I always keep sticky notes with me a church for writing down something that really sticks out to me. And then I add it to my Bible. Then, when I read that passage again, I have the notes!

Use paper to prevent Bleeding

Once I used a sharpie pen in my Bible to write something down and it bled through five pages! What could've prevented that? Putting a paper in between the page, and the next page.

Enjoy it!

This is a BIG IMPORTANT POINT! Make sure you are having a good time when you Bible journal. I think that is you enjoy it, you will get more out of it.

Well girls! I hope you enjoyed this post. Feel free to post a picture of you Bible journaling ideas in the comments. See you!
