How to start your own business

Hey girls! Happy Spring! For Today's post, we are talking business. Do you want to start your own business? How should you do it? Where should you start? What should you sell? Well, today I thought I would share the answer!


Starting a business is fun. Do you you know what's more fun? Doing it with friends! Destination Creation is a group effort. We brainstorm, sell, and laugh together. There's nothing like it! Selling a craft show is fun as well as selling outside your house. Starting a business is a great adventure!


What do you like? How can you turn that into a business?

So. What things DO you like? Here are some topics and How you could turn them into your very own business:


Sewing: Making gadgets like mini bags or mug cozies for other gals.

Crafting: You could make a craft box "subscription" kit

Writing: You could take orders and write articles or magazine sections

Baking: You could sell cookie dough for people to bake in the comfort of their home

Pets: You could take care of pets while their owners are gone

Graphic Design: You could make flyers or media posts for other people

Tech: You could teach other older people how to use technology

School: You could help younger kids (Neighbors, friends) with homework

Photography: You could take pictures at birthday parties

Planning: You could plan parties for younger kids

Sports: You could clean peoples equipment (Cleats, soccer balls, ex)


So did one of those ideas spark your creativeness? This could be the start to your biz! If you didn't see any ideas you liked, try this: Write down 5 things you like. Now, on the other side, write down 5 ways to turn it into a biz. Pick one you like, and dive in!


How will your business be different? What's your niche?

(In case anyone is confused, your niche is a specialized section of your biz). Explore the web and see what other people are doing with your idea. Think of something that will make YOU the reason people can't wait to support. Here are some ideas:


Crafting: Instead of making the crafts, you teach others how to do it themselves.

Baking: You give people the dough so they can make hot cookies without having to spend a lot of time making the dough

Pets: You could donate 1/2 the money to an animal shelter

Sewing: Pick one unique thing and for it really really well.


Picking one thing and doing that thing well will make you better at that thing, which means you can make the price higher.

Who will you serve? What do they like/dislike?

So who is your audience? Is it younger kids or is it older seniors? Knowing your audience will help you. Also, think about what they like and don't like. Narrowing it down to even their favorite colors can be helpful.



Now that you have a better idea of what you can do with your business and who you live to serve, let's look at getting your business started!


Step 1: Make a business plan

Get out a sheet of paper and write the following questions answers. Add your own thoughts to!


  • Where will you sell your products?

  • Who will your customers be?

  • What supplies do they need?

  • How much money does it cost to get started?

  • How will you advertise?

  • How much will you charge for your products or service?

  • What will you call your business?


Once, you have those questions answered, you have a good start.


Step 2: Discuss with your parents

This step is important too. Get the OK form your mom and dad to do it and also talk to them about possible marketing strategies. Can you start a YouTube channel or handout flyers? Talk to them for ideas.


Step 3: Raise the money needed to get started.

Now that you really know what you're doing, raise the money to start! You could do a business kickoff lemonade stand, or have a garage sale. This is another thing to talk to your parents about.
